Meet you in 2022…

I had an epiphany in Belfast recently during a city break (…in other news, would highly recommend a visit to this fabulous city), in that I realised how differently Mr T and I undertake the activity of sightseeing.
So, stereotype warning ahead…
He plans the trip to within a second of our lives. I don’t. That said, I do largely work in chunks of mornings and afternoons. I kid myself that I was born to be wild and spontaneous…but only until 8:30pm or so…
He’s really interested in the structure of buildings… I comment on whether I like the pattern of the brickwork, its colour and how clean the windows are.
He wants to try the most unusual local delicacy. I covet a rib eye with a side of sweet potatoes fries more or less wherever we go.
Perhaps the biggest difference is how we work our way through a museum slash exhibition.
We went to the iconic Titanic Experience during our stay (obvs!). It boasts, and doesn’t disappoint, “a self-guided tour where you discover the sights, sounds, smells and stories of the ship.” Whilst we simultaneously smiled, had tears in our eyes, felt immensely emotional and came away with the stories resonating, we tackled this exhibition soooooooo differently.
In his defence, I do tend to do everything quickly and, by my own admission, often too fast.
I speed read the information plaques, quickly assessed what I considered I needed to know from what would be nice to know, checked out whether anyone famous was involved and cooed over the fashions of the time (there were some stunning hats, bags and shoes on that ship!).
It’s fair to say that I am inclined to overlook some of the more technical aspects of any exhibition.
Suffice it to say that we started together, holding hands, around 1908, parted company for many, many (many) intervening years until one of the Disneyesque rides brought me to an abrupt halt and forced me to wait for him. From there, we went our separate ways for a fair few decades before we were reunited …in around 1998!
I cannot deny that Mr T would score more highly than me if RMS Titanic was his specialist subject on Mastermind.
However, absence makes the heart grow fonder and we had loads to talk about as he filled me in later (over Irish Stew and a Rib Eye!) on all the information he considered I had missed!
